Das schwedische Entwicklerteam Mojang AB hat für das Sandbox-Game Minecraft das Update auf die Version 1.3 fertiggestellt. Der Patch bringt umfangreiche Änderungen mit sich, u.a. das Handelssystem, neue Items und tiefgreifende Änderungen an der Game-Engine. Mit dem Handelssystem können Spieler nun mit den Dorfbewohnern Waren auszutauschen und auf den Märkten Minecraft die neu eigeführten Smaragde anbieten.
Die wesentlichste technische Neuerung ist die Umstellung des Singleplayer-Modus: dieser basiert künftig auf dem Multiplayer-Modus, d.h. dass auch im Solo-Modus ein Server im Hintergrund läuft. Den Entwicklern soll damit die Arbeit erleichtert werden, da es somit nicht mehr zwei uanbhängige Versionen geben wird. Für den Spieler wird das eine erhöhte System-Anforderung zur Folge haben.
