Story

You play as Sadler, a man who fights for what he believes in. You were the
leader of a revolt that destroyed a superpower, led by Luciel. The battle
brought peace to the desert, but this peace was short lived. The military force
of Luciel, a rival country, has once again declared war. You begin at a village
near the desert, where you build an amy of four to seek and destroy Luciel
leaders. During your journey you"ll make many friends and enemies. You"ll
travel to many exotic lands in search of various items. Exile is a
well-balanced game of role playing and arcade action. Gameplay is on the easier
side of medium difficulty, making this a great game for both beginner and
intermediate players. Excellent graphics and animations help tell the story
throughout.

A Village in the Dunes

-This is where the quest begins. The storyline is illustrated in an opening
that bets the ending sequence of most games. Rumi will join you immediately,
but the other members won"t until you speak to a villager in q building to the
top left. Both Fakil and Kindi look different than most villagers, and will
join when you run into them.

-Before leaving the village you can buy weapons and medicines. Save the weapons
for later and head for the medicine shop at the bottom of the village (by
holding C you can walk much faster). You have 300 gold. The convalescents will
recharge your energy, which is important during long battles. Your money"s well
spent by buying three, or you may choose to buy a weapon or armor from the shop
to the far right.

A Village in the Dunes 2

-Head for an oasis located at the top of this area, but before searching the
mirage for an entrance, be sure to save your game.

-By gaining levels you increase your maximum Hit Points and other stats. Thanks
to a persistent army of ants you can increase your levels easily here.
Remember, however, that if you don"t beat a boss you have to restart from where
you last saved, without the level increase. Once inside, go right past the
first four mud falls in the background. Stand by the fourth fall and hold B to
swing and kill ants that continually appear from the right. After two or three
minutes you"ll have enough Experience to raise a Level, providing more Hit
Points and strength.

-After building your level up, head right and fall into the first hole. Head
right again and jump over the hole, then climb upward and left on the
platforms. Enter the doorway to the far left.

-As you enter the boss"s lair the background becomes purple. The boss is a
burrowing bug (ant Lion) that crawls out of the ground and attacks. The best
counter-attack is to jump and rapidly swing the sword (B and C) while pressing
Down. As you land the sword will aim downward. Watch your hit points carefully!
When you become weak use a convalescent by pressing A and selecting Tonic with
B. If you die, you"ll restart at the entrance of the mirage (assuming you
saved).

-Upon defeating the Ant Lion, head to the right to find an exit, then right
again to find a message leading to your next quest.

El-In

-Remember your Hit Points will be replenished whenever leaving an action scene
and returning to the party. If you get off to a bad start, this is smarter than
using a valuable convalescent.

-Head straight up to the castle entrance, where you"ll leave the rest of the
party behind again. Save before entering. Enter the castle and go to the far
left, then enter the first door and head left again to the stairs. Halfway up
the stairs is a platform to the right. Jump to it, then jump right again until
you reach a door. Inside a door is a treasure with 500 gold. Leave the room
(ready to fight), then head back to Dunes Village to by more medicine and/or
weapons. If your level is up to 3 or 4 you should by weapons and clothing, but
always keeping two convalescents or somnifacients on hand.

-Return to the stairs of the castle, heading to the top and entering the door
to the left. Go left past the first door and into the second. Go left again
(under a chandelier) and enter the door, then go left past the first door and
into the second. Drop down to the ground by walking off the platforms, then go
through the door. At this point, you will be back outside (with a blue sky). Go
to the far left and enter the door of the red building, where you"ll meet the
next boss.

-Before challenging the boss be sure to check your Hit Points in the Status
option. If you"re at level 2 you"ll have a maximum of 23 Hit Points and 30 at
Level 3. If your current Hit Points are 10 Hit Points or less than your
maximum, use a convalescent, which gives you 10 Hit Points of energy. You can
also cast the Magic spell "Restoration” to gain Hit Points.

-A simple pattern makes this boss very simple to defeat. As you enter the room
jump up to the platform and stand on the right edge. You"ll see a knight on
horseback ready to fight. Jump up and right the platform, and then press left
to land back onto the platform. If he doesn"t speak to you, you must jump
further to the right, be sure to land on the platform or get back up on it
quickly. The knight will charge back and forth on the platform but you"ll be
safe. To defeat him, use the same technique for the burrowing bug in the
Mirage. Press B and C rapidly (to jump and swing your sword) while pressind
Down on the control pad. Continue till he"s defeated.

Homis Shrine and the Norbian Village

-From the entrance of the shrine go straight up the stairs to find Lord Yuug"s
Office. After a short talk you"ll be at the Norbian Village.

-Speak to the boy near the sheep. You"ll return to him later, so remember where
to find him. In this same area you"ll find a medicine shop (where you can buy
somnifacients) and a weapon shop. Upgrade your sword at the weapon shop, and
then buy any items you can afford. Sell any items you don"t need.

-At the top right of the Norbian Village is the Faisan Pass, where Rumi will be
kidnapped. Explore this area, including the store in the center of the circle
of stones. To the left is a cathedral. Walk behind the cathedral to find the
lost sheep, then return to the boy and bring him back.

-Before entering the cathedral, save your game. The first thing to search for
is a necklace. Enter the left entrance of the cathedral, then climb up and walk
past the first door. Jump up and left to the stone ledge and enter the door.
Walk to the left (past a stained glass window) and jump to a door. At the left
of this room is the necklace. Exit the same way you came in, and then return to
Yuug at the center of the circle of stones.

-Before entering the cathedral, save again. Enter the right entrance, then
climb up and walk past the first door. You"re now at the center of the
building. Climb up three floors on the center pink platforms, then jump to the
right stone ledge ad enter the door. Go right and jump up the platforms in the
center of the room to the next floor up. Jump to the long pink platform at the
right and enter the door to find the broken stained glass. Before walking up to
the stained glass, check your Hit points. After walking through another door
you"ll meet the next boss.

-The boss is one of the toughest in the game, but with a level of 5 and a few
convalescents you should be able to outlast him. The boss will be invincible
for a few seconds after each hit, so hit and step back to avoid being hit.
After a few hits, the boss will split, with a yellow spirit hovering while the
red cape spins from side to side. Jump up and hit the yellow spirit a few
times, then prepare to fight the original form again. This pattern will repeat
four times.

-Now you mst find Rumi by choosing the correct of 10 doors. The fifth door from
the right leads to a room with a Pipbettle, which will replenish your Magic
Points. You can then use your Magic Points to Restore your Hit points (select
Magic in the menu by pressing B). Rumi is in the second door from the left.
You"ll then be zapped back to the entrance of the cathedral. Return to the
Norbian Village.

-After talking to the townspeople and buying any needed medicines or weapons,
head for the top left path from the village. You"ll need to check the basement
of this building, which is free from enemies.

Chenobora and Rangle Island

-From the entrance, head to the right to find weapon and medicine shops, but
this time they aren"t buildings. Look for a green-haired lady and a man near a
tree. Visit the castle, then go to Rangle Island.

-Straight up from the entrance is the cave with Lama (the others have nothing
of interest). Larma will direct you to Baiguria Forest, at the bottom left of
Rangle Island. Before entering, be sure to save.

-The butterflies in the forest will deduct Magic Points if they touch you, so
be careful and swing rapidly. Your first objective is located underground. Head
to the left and take the path leading down. As long as you enter the first
available door each time, you"ll find Jofre. She"ll ask you to find her diary,
which is in the cave with Larma. Save before entering the forest again.

-After returning the diary to Jofre she"ll tell you to hunt for the Garuda.
Before searching for the cave, leave the forest to recharge your Hit and Magic
Points.

-The cave to Garuda is at the top left corner of the forest. To reach it you
must climb the limbs of the trees. Once you reach the final tree you"ll be able
to climb higher than in other trees. It"s the ninth tree to the left. Climb as
high as you can and then jump to the left, holding left until you land at the
entrance to the cave. Garuda is waiting inside, but check your Hit Points
before entering. With a level of 10 or higher you"ll defeat him quickly. Use
the jump and swing technique by rapidly pressing B and C while holding Down on
the control pad. If your Hit Points get low, hit A and use a convalescent or
cast a Restoration spell. You"ll find Milleiu in a room to the left.

-After returning to the cave and speaking with Larma, you"ll need to carry on a
ritual. You"ll have to return to Chenobora, then Baiyon.

Baiyon

-The castle inside Baiyon, like others in the past, is a maze-like series of
platforms and doors. Enter the first doors you come to, and then go to the left
and jump on the platforms to reach the second floor to the right. Go to the far
right, past the first door, and enter the second door. You"ll find yourself on
a ledge with a door, and a similar ledge and door are to the left. Jump over to
that ledge, carefully, and then jump to the next ledge and climb up to find
another ledge. To the right is another door on a wide ledge. Pass this door up
and continue to the right, then climb upward to the next ledge. This ledge
stretches to the far left. Follow it, and then climb up and follow the next
ledge to the right. Enter this door, then skip the first three doors and enter
the fourth door. In this room you"ll find four statues. The statue on the far
right is where you"ll find the Ritual Book. But be ready for a battle after you
grab it.

-Get ready for some cool graphics from this boss. The Statue will grow and
begin to rotate, while the faces come to life. Each time you hit the statue it
will become invincible and fire back, so take cover. By jumping onto the
pedestal after the statue moves away from it, you can jump up and hit the
statue, then duck down to avoid its attack. Watch you Hit Points, but if you
have a Level of 11 or higher you shouldn"t have any problem.

-Now you must find your way out of the castle. When you return to the room with
seven doors enter the second from the left. After dropping to the floor, enter
the door, and then keep dropping down until you reach the bottom floor. To the
left is the path you came in. Next, it"s back to Chenobora for a quick
conversation, and then off to Rangle Island to complete the ritual. After
another cool sequence of excellent graphics you"ll be sent to Musashi to
discover a secret ceremony.

Musashi, Oni Island and Mount Koya

-In Musashi you"ll find Medicine and Weapon shops. Don"t forget to save. After
talking to a few villagers it"s off to Oni Island, where Jinnkan, a prisoner,
will send you to Mount Koya.

-To find the key on Mount Koya, head to the bottom of the area, then walk to
far right to find a small building (the offering place). Return to Jinnkan with
a key.

-To pry the prison door open you must get a Mandrel from one of the walking
prisoners. You"ll find one willing to help in the dirt area down and right
Jinnkan, using a pick axe. After releasing Jinnkan you"ll return to Mount Koya.

-At Mount Koya you must enter several different building in the correct order,
beginning from the Konpon Main Tower. Head straight down from the entrance of
Mount Koya, and then up on the first path at the right. Three building are in
this area, and Konpon is tall building on the far right.

-In Konpon you"re searching for the Taizokai Mandala Chart. Save before
entering, then head left. Notice the snow falling in the windows, which will be
a good sign you"re near the exit when you need to find it later. Enter each
door you reach till you find yourself with a choice of three doors (plus the
one you just entered through). Enter the first door at the top of the first
steps, and then walk to the left, entering the door at the far left. In this
room you"ll have two doors to choose from. Enter the far left, and then enter
the door to the left again. The next door to the left statue holds the chart.
Collect it, and then find your way out.

-Next you must search Kongobuji Temple for the Kongokai mandala Chart. At the
top right corner of Mount Koya are two temples surrounded by a wall. A similar
wall surrounds the Kongobuji Temple to the left. Save your game before
entering. Once inside, head to the right and enter the door, then go left and
enter the second door (to the far left). Head right and jump up to the step,
and then jump up to the door. The chart is in this room to left of the entrance
you can find Aconite, but it"s not worth the trouble.

-Once you can have the two charts you must return to Daiski-Gokaku to chant the
Sutra of Shinso. Daiski-Gokaku is located and right as far as you can go. It"s
surrounded by a fortress-like wall, and is located directly behind the Toro-Do
Temple inside the wall. While Jinnkan performs the chant to break the barrier
spell you must rush to the Kongobuji Temple, which is directly to the left.
Save first!

-In the Kongobunji Temple you must fight the next boss. Head to the left and
enter the first door, then go right and enter the next door. Next, go left and
enter the first door, then to the left is the door to the boss. He"s hanging
from the wall when you enter, but soon he"ll hop down and attack like a lion.
If you"re low on energy, power up using an herb. As the boss jumps over your
head he"ll shoot bolts downward. As with the other bosses, the strategy for
attacking is easy. Jump and hold Down on the control pad while swinging your
weapon. Continue to attack while avoiding his pouncing until he"s defeated.

-After defeating the boss, return to Jinnkan in the Daiski-Gokaku Temple for
your next assignment. The Toro-Do Temple is located directly below the
Daiski-Gokaku Temple.

El-In Revisited, Elseus and Es-Keso

-As you enter Elseus. Save your game. Work your way to the top of this area,
talking with the townspeople and upgrading your weapons in the shops. As you
enter the Vakkaso Shrine you"ll fear the inevitable maze of doors running you
in circles. But fear not! There"s only one path which takes you to an elderly
man and a strong and powerful boss.

-After a short talk with the boss, battle will engage. The boss moves from side
to side. Attack with your sword. You won"t be able to avoid being hit, but he
doesn"t cause much damage. After a few movements he"ll split in two and spin in
a circle, then spin from one side of the screen to the other. During this
period of the battle climb down a few steps of the pyramid, then climb back up
and continue the battle.

-After rescuing Semere from the boss you"ll be zapped back to the entrance of
the shrine. Take Semere back to her home, located in the first building on the
left as you head downward.

-Next head to Es-Keso, saving as you enter. To the left you"ll find a
triangular lake, and an old man nearby has words of advice. You"ll find the
three pupils of Roget in a building up and right from the triangular lake.
Enter, and enter the third door (at the far left). Climb up the bloody falls
and enter the door on the left, then climb across to the door on the left, and
then climb across the door at the far left and enter. You"ll now be on a
platform by the door you walked through, with two doors located below. Here
you"ll meet Yubero, whom will claim he"s innocent. Head to the left and enter
the door, then jump down to the find Yuberum, and a battle. This is another
easy fight. Simply stand on the center platform and rapidly jump while pressing
down and swinging your sword. After a few hitsYuberum will explode, leaving the
Heramusso behind. Enter the door on the left, and then enter the next door.
Here you"ll find the final pupil, and some possibly useful information. Head
for the exit, then head back to the old man near the triangular lake. Enter the
lake at the top.

Return to Homis Shrine, and the Finale!

-Head for the entrance of the Shrine (saving first), then enter that mysterious
door. This path leads you straight to your first battle, which pits you against
your shadow. Luckily his energy and strength are not built like yours, allowing
an easy defeat using rapid fighting and dodging.

-The final battle begins! Yuug uses all of his evil powers to form a powerful
being. Again, rapid swinging and dodging are your only chance of survival, be
sure not to waste your Magic Points - use them for Fire spells. If your energy
is drained, use a magic spell or herb to increase your points. The path that
leads you to this final battle provides for an effective build-up of levels and
strength, making this a fairly quick and easy confrontation.

-While many games contain a simple congratulations message or a few pictures as
a reward, this game contains many long animation sequences throughout every
stage. The ending sequence is no exception, including an excellent animation
and lost list of credits, creating an excellent payoff for an entertaining
journey.
